Principle 2: Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces
|
Students watch a short video about Travelling and Camping on Durable surfaces then go outside and evaluate different surfaces. Students then engage in a discussion about protecting biological soil crusts.

Principle 3: Dispose of Waste Properly
After watching the introduction video about disposing of waste properly, students go through a short slideshow about how to poop in the woods and discuss when to pack out toilet paper and even feces. Students also watch a short video on using the groover, a common bathroom system for river trips. Finally students pick up trash around campus.

Principle 4: Leave What You Find

Principle 5: Minimize Campfire Impact
Students will practice making Leave No Trace fires. Assignments include:
- Light a one match fire that burns for at least 20 seconds and burns completely to ash
- Make a poster that communicates how to properly make and extinguish a Leave No Trace Fire
- Research campfire alternatives
- Baton a piece of wood and try your hand at feathersticking.
