Kinematics and Calculating Acceleration

2/21/2020

Today we talked about Kinematics, the classical form of physics focused on position, velocity, and acceleration. We finished the day practicing calculating acceleration.
GOLD TAPE QUESTION: Usain Bolt holds the world record for the 100 meter dash. His world record time of 9.58 s had him hitting a top speed of 12 m/s by the end of the race. What was Bolt's acceleration over the course of the race?

In class today we bowled in the hallway with a squishy ball, basketball and bowling ball. Then we analyzed and graphed our data, and finally wrote a conclusion to our experiment. At the end of class we began to relate our experiment to the concept of inertia. Watch the video to the right to review inertia.
Gold Tape Question: Where does the word "Inertia" come from?

Quizzes were passed back today then students stacked pennies on top of index cards and tried to pull them out. Students discovered it's a lot easier to flick the card out. We will continue exploring this phenomena in class tomorrow.
If you missed class, check out the video to the right to see what we did.
