What a great first day of school! We met our student teacher Mr.Houde, went over classroom policies and even did some chemistry. Today we made Methane molecules out of ball and stick models and Mr.Houde demonstrated flammable "Methane Bubbles." Methane is a hydrocarbon that is a flammable gas in the same family as propane. We discussed how propane has 3 carbons and methane only has one. The first student to tell Mr. Powell the name of a hydrocarbon with 8 carbon atoms in it will receive a prize. You can tell him before school, during class, or even email him. But there's only one winner!
